Browne Craine Dragons remain undefeated
Monday night was A league night where team AON enjoyed a 4-1 victory over StoneArt. Robin Crease, Mason McLarney, Chris Cave and Liam Davies all overcame their opponents in their individual match-ups. AON’s only defeat came when Patrick Fitzpatrick lost in his clash with the impressive Hamish Thornton.
EasyGym maintained their unbeaten start to the season with 165-126 points result against Cannell Print. Cannell Print’s Mark Webster Smith continued his great start to the season with a 3-0 win over Dave Hedley. At number one Thomas Whiteway got the better of Malcolm Levy in a close match taking the games score 3-0. However EasyGym’s Paul Barnett, Dave O’Neill and Rob Boyles all secured good wins to ensure EasyGym took the match.
In the B league Outcasts came out on top against Island Exhausts winning 3v2 overall. All the matches were close but the tightest of the night was at five between Outcast Phil Whittam and Exhaust’s Les Callow with only one point in it, Whittam winning 15-14 in the fifth game. The fourth strings also went to five games, this time the win going to Exhausts with Peter Sharples beating Pat Russell 15-13 in the fifth.
The other B league match saw a 3-2 win by Crowe Dragons over the Sharks. Dragons Steve Gaylor and Magnus Lamprecht secured straight 3-0 wins over Dave Freer and Wouter Schoeman. Jon Shepherd was made to work by Terry Holt at fifth string but won 3-1. The closest matches of the night were both won by Sharks with Mark Webster Smith and Alan McNair beating Ben Peach and Pete Ferguson in five close games.
The C League continued to see some close matches this week with Browne Craine Dragons gaining a close 3-2 victory over Hansard Racketeers. The closest match of the night was between Racketeer Daryl Richards and Richard Creer with Creer eventually winning in the fifth. At number five Fatheha Essa and Dave Johnson also had close games with Esa winning for the Dragons. The third win for Dragons came from Michelle Smith, with wins for Racketeers from James Leith and Lucy Kerr.
Buchanan and Pitts Misfits came up against Junior Academy this week. Strong performances from Chris Gledhill, Stephen Pitts and John Watterson set the B&P Misfits off to a good start. The number one match saw some good squash from both Terry Holt and Oliver Wait. In the end youth overcame experience with Junior Wait winning 3-1 but only nine points separated the two players. Richard Webster also won for Junior Academy but the overall win went to Misfits 3-2.
Dandara Falcons had a 3-2 win over Island Exhausts Vets. Phil Mackie and Lewi Long played well at second and third string to beat Les Callow and Lee Loughren respectively. Exhausts Phil Shaw and Jimmy Fick won at fourth and fifth string to make it 2-2. The match at first string wasn't played thereby giving Ian Barnes a walkover and the match to Falcons.
Santander International Racketeers Academy found victory for the first time this season against a slightly weakened Dohle Stars team. Both sides had to find guests to make up the numbers for various reasons. Barry Irvine from Pioneers Racketeers guested down while Dohle Stars introduced two new players to the squash leagues - Wajahat Hussein and Stuart Pratt. Barry Irvine, Nic Kieswetter, Carlie Beard and Nick Corlett all won for Racketeers while Sachet Baniya prevented the whitewash with a 3-1 win over Steven Wright.
