X STONEART CHISEL OUT A SMALL LEAD IN DIVISION A

2 Nov 2017

X Stoneart secured leading spot in Division A after a close encounter with E-Cerebro on Monday night. The match went to E-Cerebro 3-2 but the middle order matches at number 2, 3 and 4 were all hard fought. Alistair Crossley had 3 very close games with Ironman Mike Hayler but eventually ran out of steam and lost the 4th game 15-3. At number 3 Steve Gaylor's experience was too much for Under 19 champion Ben Peach. It was a similar story at number 4 where Calum Baker pushed David Freer all the way but David's experience saw him win the 5th game 15-6.

The other A league match played on Monday night was between easyGym and International Divers Team. International Divers are an impressive team when they are at full strength and maintained their undefeated record for the season. They had convincing wins from 1 through to 3. At four Mike O’Brien played well to take Lyndon Cheetham to five games, with Lyndon winning the fifth. Mark Grace prevented the easyGym whitewash by beating Gary Corlett 3-1.

The Division B Fixtures brought another victory for Island Exhausts who defeated Outcasts by 4 matches to 1. One of the notable matches was between Ian Shirley and Phil Whittam. These two met in a match 3 weeks ago when Phil got the victory. However this time Ian reversed the result and was on the right side of a 3-2 victory.

In the other B league match Conister Racketeers Pioneers celebrated their first win of the season with a 3-2 victory against the Sharks, with wins from Rob Boyles, Calum Baker and Barry Irvine. Greg Ansara won for the Sharks along with Mike O’Brien who just got the better of Dafydd Lewis in a 5 game thriller which ended with a points score of 45-44.

In the C League Döhle Stars had a clean sweep against Jewel Tech Ladies. Clare Townsend and Christian Webster took a game each for Jewel Tech from Antony Bentley-Roberts and Eckhard Garbers respectively. However the best match of the night was between Luke Tippett and Rebecca Keeley in the number 3 slot with some great rallies and very close games, both players having enjoyed a cracking match that Luke won 3-0.

Junior Academy also had a great match, just losing out 3-2 against Buchanan and Pitts Misfits. The ever improving Oliver Waite played brilliant squash to beat John Watterson. The outstanding talent that is Ben Leith did very well to take a game off Jay Dernie at fifth string. Other wins for the Misfits came from Stephen Pitts and Courtney Gilardoni.

Reigning C League champions Dandara Falcons stoked up their title credentials with a convincing 4-1 win over Hansard Racketeers on Friday. Simon Jones, Vusimbe Zivave, Jon Cox and captain Fiona Baker secured the wins for Falcons the latter two in emphatic style. The only bright spot on another tough night for the Racketeers was a debut win for James Leith who defeated Blake Ronald 3-0 at third string.

An eventful evening with the Racketeers Academy calling on the services of Barry Irvine (number 5 of the Conister Racketeers Pioneers) to take on a select Brown Craine Dragons full of names familiar to the B league regulars. Some close games tonight with the away team amassing the most points, but it wasn’t enough to win overall with the home team, Racketeers Academy, winning 3-2 and taking the extra 25 points.
